Is there anybody out there?

My parents are in the Czech Republic - or at least headed that way. I've made them this blog so that they can post their adventures. My Dad has been asking me for years to teach him how to use Blogger. I haven't because it doesn't seem like something that needs to be taught. Not like how to truss a chicken, how to make pastry or how to speak another language.

This assumption on my part is, I now realize, part and parcel of the egocentrism of a child in relation to her parent. Of course he must know everything I know. Or at least have all the skills I possess to figure stuff out, if not more. But we are from different times and places and our facility with our environments - cyber or otherwise - is also very different.

So they are headed to Prague. Seems everyone is off to Czech. My colleague Marcus is going to a literary festival in Brno as part of a contingent of Canadian writers. Go Canada!

For my part, I will remain at home in sunny (for now) Vancouver. I will go to the beach. I will. I mean it.

Here's what Dad wrote to us (my sisters and I) today:
